The Road to Sturgis, Day 2

Welcome back fans and readers,

Welcome to Day #2 of the Road to Sturgis. Another long day of driving. We left from somewhere west of Chicago (when you are road-weary, you often don't know exactly where you are) at around 7AM. today's journey took us to south Dakota via a new route. Instead of heading Northwest through Wisconsin and Minnesota, we decided to take Route 80 straight across Illinois and into Iowa. We stopped for a quick lunch (Subway) in Des Moines and then around Sioux City, IA. we headed North on Rt. 29 hugging Iowa and Nebraska boarders.

We then hit Sioux City, South Dakota in the late afternoon and continued north to Sioux City, SD where we stopped for gas. John decided to check out the vehicle and trailer and discovered that the large nut that secures the trailer hitch ball had come lose. This was despite having a lock washer. It was too late to find an open mechanic with a large wrench so I improvised with a pair of vice grips. We were off again and traveled about 30 miles west on route 90 for our last stop in a small town. The name of this town escapes me. After dining on local pizza (it was acceptable) we hit the hay for a much deserved rest in this Best Western.

Tune in tomorrow for the final leg of our journey. After a stop at Cabela's we should hit the Glencoe Camp Resort in Sturgis by 3PM. Pictures will follow in these posts once we get the equipment unpacked and in the tents. More posts with pictures to come.
